Time line of gays

Brooklyn, N. Brighton Beach has become a center for individuals looking to maintain a connection to Russian language and culture. Unfortunately, Brighton Beach remains homophobic, transphobic, racist and xenophobic. Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex and queer LGBTIQ individuals face discrimination in housing, workplaces, medical facilities etc. Last summer, our Co-President Lyosha Gorshkov had even received death threats after he publicly denounced the racist remarks made by one of the public figures in the Russian-Speaking community who once run for the New York State Assembly. Concerns with immigration status, especially under the current Administration, compound problems for this already vulnerable community.
