The Goulandris Museum of Cycladic Art, to begin with, is consisted of two different buildings the magnificent, neoclassical Stathatos Mansion and the modern Main Building which are connected internally. The Main Building includes the rooms of the permanent collections and the new wing of the museum, while the Stathatos Mansion hosts the temporary exhibitions. The museum was founded in , in order to house the private collection of Nikolaos and Dolly Goulandris, but progressively was extended and today also houses other important collections-donations.
